January 8, 2011 – The Chicago Cubs today acquired right-handed pitcher Matt Garza, outfielder Fernando Perez and left-handed pitcher Zachary Rosscup from the Tampa Bay Rays for right-handed pitcher Chris Archer, catcher Robinson Chirinos, infielder Hak-Ju Lee and outfielders Sam Fuld and Brandon Guyer.
Garza, 27, went 15-10 with a 3.91 ERA in the rugged AL East last season. He allowed just 193 hits over 204.2 innings, with 150 strikeouts and joins a rotation featuring Carlos Zambrano, Ryan Dempster and Carlos Silva that should be one of the best in the NL Central.
